The Light is not our light or your light or my light

I recently am memorizing the phrase, "Do not suppose that what you realize becomes your knowledge or is grasped by your consciousness." A very helpful reminder to realize the light is not me or mine or yours or ours...it is ungraspable, unowned, not up to me to cook up or spark...it is there right in the middle of the muddy waters of every day tasks and thought and feelings. This is ggenerosity....ever-present light...

I like that so much. light, unowned, ungraspable, in the midst of the ordinary. its appearance like the ashman at cinderella's hearth, like the chariot waiting in the dust of the road, like the voice of freedom in the crowded subway. it is there in the grays of the banker, in the peacock's brilliance in the dry field, in the heron's movement through the darkening field. a hair's breath of distance separates heaven and earth
